East Meets West

P East met P West today! It was really exciting - my first bonobo inter-group encounter. First we heard distant vocalizations and P East responded. The calls got closer and closer, and a couple of females, Jane and Chio, can to feed with P East. They G-G rubbed and then just acted like normal. Another female, Deco, and a male, Wamba, stayed on the ground and milled about. Turkey branch dragged and chased Wamba several times, but in the end they groomed briefly. The whole encounter lasted about an hour, then the groups separated and P East took a nap. I left at noon, so I'll be interested to see if they met up again in the apres-midi.
