Day 9

Research Log
Another day off. Meant to meet a local man to show us medicinal plants at the Cerro (the hill), but he didn't show up. Erica and I hiked it anyway. Then we helped Charlotte with her garden all afternoon, raking leaves for the compost. She has an organic garden with chickens and pineapples, among other things. Swam in the ocean to cool off. Then helped Alex, the herpetology PhD candidate to measure snakes.

Animal of the Day
Allen's Coral Snake - Micrurus alleni
This snake is incredibly venomous. Whoever Allen was, he must have been pretty hardcore. There's a poem to distinguish between real Corals and fakers: "Red touches yellow, could kill a fellow; Red touches black, won't harm Jack".
